Utah Travel

Mormons aren't the only people who love this place

One of the popular misconceptions about Utah is that you can't get a drink anywhere - not a Budweiser or Wild Turkey to be found. Renowned as the hotbed of the strict Mormon faith, this state was also known to put the kibosh on dancing and drinking that devil juice - coffee. Well, if you are planning to jet into Salt Lake City, you can put your mind at ease as liquor, disco and Starbucks have all found their place in the Beehive State.

Despite the fact that the Church of Latter Day Saints is headquartered here, Salt Lake is surprisingly liberal. Yes, there are bars and some good restaurants by the Great Salt Lake, but the nightlife scene thrives as well. Sports enthusiasts can also get their fill of basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer clubs that call the city home. Hosting the Winter Olympics in 2002 - which brought the world to Utah - has no doubt fueled a renaissance in tourism.

Quick Fun Facts

Mormons eschew caffeine and alcohol, but they love sweets - which means that ice cream and pastries can be found in great quantities in Utah. Not only that, but Jell-O is the official state snack.
