Airport Information

The fast track to airports, airlines and security

With shopping malls, luxury hotels and fine dining all neatly contained within, modern airports are worlds onto themselves. Whatever you forget, you can usually find it easily, but forgetting (or not knowing) the rules can quickly turn your travels into a living hell.

If you're just starting your airport / airline research, you'll need to know the ins and outs of airport codes, major hubs and checking in, as well as some dos and don'ts of transportation:

  • Airport Codes Explained - Ever wonder what all those letters and numbers mean? While it's great to book a golf vacation in Manchester, unless you know the airport code, you could end up in either the U.S. or the U.K. - a world of difference.
  • U.S. Hubs - Many airlines work through hubs now, allowing passengers from the far reaches of the continent to connect to international hotspots quickly and easily. The U.S. has more hubs than any other country in the world.
  • Global Hubs - Flying abroad is easier now with global hubs to connect through. But, you'll be faced with language barriers, different rules and more service restrictions than in the U.S.
  • Check-In - Heightened security at all airports - particularly since Sept.11 - makes for excruciatingly long lineups at check-in and screening. But there are ways to get through the lines quickly - without breaking the law.
  • Airport Dos and Don'ts - Novice travelers need the rules clearly outlined, and frequent fliers can always use a refresher.
  • Airport Transportation - When it comes to ground transportation at the airport, you may feel like you need a university course to figure it all out. It's not that hard, but there are some tricks to get you safely on your way.
