Oceania Cruise lines
Your world. Your way.
Between ports, this cruise line is quieter than the competition. These relatively small ships broadcast few announcements, have no children's programs and provide enrichment classes in lieu of bingo. Because their clientele seeks adventure, not rejuvenation, these vacation cruises feel more like floating hotels than festivals at sea.
Why Go?
- Luxury cruising at mid-range pricing on smaller ships
- Adventure - the line offers more frequent and longer shore excursions than other lines
Passenger Profile
Adventuresome couples of all ages flock to Oceania. With singles paying the same rate as couples, few opt to cruise solo, and with no kids' facilities or special programs, parents won't feel like they're on vacation.
Staterooms
Luxurious bedding and top-drawer European mattresses might keep you from noticing that the standard cabins are on the small side. Many staterooms have the added space of a private veranda. Not only are the suites larger, they come with butler service.
Dining
While Oceania doesn't have the lavish floor shows you'll find on other lines, they go overboard on food. With top chefs and specialty restaurants that don't charge extra, Oceania outperforms many luxury lines. One of the highlights is the sumptuous afternoon high tea.
Onboard Highlights
- Activities - Shore excursions are the main draw, but you can attend classes, watch a cooking demonstration given by a top chef, learn the history of your next stop, improve your dancing skills or unwind at the spa.
- Nightlife - Small-scale entertainment is Oceania's strength. Soloists, small combos and stand-up comics are in keeping with the more low-key atmosphere. While there's no casino, intimate lounges and martini bars provide you with plenty to do while leaving you fresh for the next day's onshore adventure.
- Theme Cruises - With destinations as the main draw, any themes center around the ports of call.
Shore Excursions
Most cruises stop at a port every day, often staying two or more days. With so many shore excursions to choose from, you might have a hard time picking a cruise.
Need to know
- Dress Code - The relaxed dress code means no formal eveningwear. It's country club casual at night, so a dress or pantsuit is fine for women, and a jacket - with or without a tie - is required for men.
- Tipping - Gratuities for dining and stateroom services will automatically be charged to your account. An 18 percent tip will also automatically be added to the bar beverages and spa services.
- Smoking - Because of an allegedly cigarette-induced fire in 2006, Oceania has the strictest smoking policy of all the lines. Breaking the rules will see you escorted off the ship at the next port. In a nutshell, smoking is allowed only in designated outdoor areas. No smoking inside - anywhere.
- Internet - E-mail is available at the Internet Café and in each room.
