World Cruises

Circumnavigating the globe in style

The ultimate route for many die-hard travelers is an around-the-world tour. While some choose to fly, a cruise is a simple, luxurious and rewarding way to earn the title of globetrotter.

Why go?

Why not? If you're hungry to travel and have the time, a world cruise can ease your journeying appetite. Hitting all the major highlights and some of the seldom-toured destinations as well, there are as many reasons as there are shore excursions. In addition to the exciting ports of call, cruising ensures no matter how many international borders you cross, you will:

  • Unpack once and forget about it
  • Pass one major security check (when you embark)
  • Always have a room reserved (no unpleasant double-booking surprises)

When to go

If you want to do the full-blown around-the-world cruise, you will likely have only one option per calendar year. If you opt for a transatlantic sail, then your ports of call will determine the best time to sail.

Cruise lines

While most cruise lines offer two- to three-week transatlantic voyages, the following OnlyWorldCruise's Best Cruise Lines offer more in-depth tours, some of which really do cover the globe.

  • Crystal Cruises - From 13-day transatlantic cruises to full-blown around-the-world-in-108-day voyages, Crystal has the most variety and longest sails available.
  • Seabourn Cruises - Chart your own 'Grand Voyage' by combining two or more cruises to the Americas, Asia and / or Europe.

What to pack

This will depend on the ports of call and time of year you launch. For ideas to cover most of your travel needs, see our packing checklist.

Miscellaneous

Because you'll potentially be away for months on end, you'll have to do extra pre-travel organizing. Don't forget to:

  • Pre-pay monthly bills or arrange for them to be paid automatically
  • Arrange for someone to check on your home, collect your mail, water your plants, etc.
  • Have your lawn maintained / snow removed so it looks like you're home
  • Notify your bank / credit card company about your trip. Otherwise, you could find your accounts frozen.
